About envirofair..... 2017, 26 BIG years of Thinking Global, Acting Local
_enviroenviroEndfjdslkfjdenvirofair is a day to celebrate and indulge in all the good things offered by the magnificent Manning Valley and Regional Surrounds, a healthy environment: fresh air; delicious, nutritious food; music, dance and laughter; useful, clever stuff to learn about; and inspiration. Last year's envirofair attracted more than 4000 visitors.
The first envirofair was inspired by Cairns Enviro Fest & the brainchild of Jo Wallace, who is a founding member of the Manning Media Cooperative Ltd, which owns and operates 2BOB Radio 104.7 FM. The Manning Media Coop. was established in the mid-1980s by a group of progressive, like-minded thinkers who formed the core of an environmentally-aware, alternative community that continues to thrive in and around the Manning Valley.
The aim of envirofair is to raise awareness of environmental issues and inspire people to embrace sustainable ways of living - and have lots of fun at the same time!
envirofair showcases ecologically-friendly goods and services and provides a platform for environmental speakers and activists. Information and demonstrations are provided about organic gardening, no-dig and container gardening, worm farming, organic food production, solar and wind alternative energy sources, recycling and re-using, healthy living, alternative therapies and more. The day also features a fantastic line-up of great musicians and entertainers as well as market stalls selling fresh local produce and gorgeous clothes and handmade goods.
envirofair is sponsored by MidCoast Water and Midcoast Waste Services (which is a collaboration of J.R. Richards & Sons waste managers, the Greater Taree, Great Lakes and Gloucester local councils), and is supported by a host of government and non-profit community environmental groups including the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, The Wilderness Society, For Australian Wildlife Needing Aid (FAWNA), Koalas in Crisis, the Platypus Awarness and Conservation Team (PACT) and others.
Children are the future and, so, envirofair is a family day with environmentally-friendly entertainment for the littles at the 2BOB Battery-Free Zone.
envirofair traditionally takes place each year on the Saturday of the Queen's Birthday long weekend in June, with all welome.
